A giant Japanese pear where size is part of the quality. Nikkori is Tochigi’s original late-season pear, born from Niitaka × Hosui and celebrated for its remarkable size, abundant juice and pronounced sweetness. “Tochigi Premium” takes it further: only beautifully rounded fruit selected at 13° Brix or higher and 800g or more qualifies for this premium standard.

Its exceptional scale is not simply visual. Tochigi Prefecture notes that larger Nikkori fruit tends to develop higher sugar levels, making its imposing size closely connected to the cultivar’s eating quality. The flesh is tender and exceptionally juicy, with rich sweetness and relatively gentle acidity.

Nikkori was developed in Tochigi itself, making the prefecture both its birthplace and its defining production region. Tochigi is one of Japan’s major Japanese pear-producing prefectures, with pear cultivation centred around areas including Utsunomiya and Haga. Nikkori arrives at the end of Tochigi’s long pear season, harvested mainly from mid-October to mid-November, when this locally bred variety reaches its peak.

Serve & Store

• Storage: Nikkori is exceptionally storage-friendly, but in Singapore, refrigerate after delivery and keep wrapped or inside a bag to minimise moisture loss. Tochigi records that the cultivar can retain quality for an unusually long period under suitable storage.
• Serving: Enjoy chilled, but avoid serving excessively cold, as very low temperatures can mute the pear’s sweetness. Cut just before serving to enjoy its abundant juice and tender-crisp texture.
