Description
Hira Seedless Persimmon, known in Japan as Hiratanenashi, is one of Japan’s classic seedless persimmons, prized for its exceptionally tender, juicy flesh. Unlike firmer persimmon varieties, its soft, succulent texture creates a smooth, delicate mouthfeel. Once its natural astringency is carefully removed, the fruit reveals a mellow, refined sweetness that becomes even more luscious as it ripens.
Nara is one of Japan’s leading persimmon-growing regions, with a long tradition of cultivating fruit for flavour rather than simply rushing it to market. In the celebrated orchards of West Yoshino, persimmons grow on well-drained hillsides approximately 200–300 metres above sea level. Growers carefully manage sunlight, water and fruit development through detailed pruning and hand-thinning, often leaving just one persimmon on each branch to concentrate the tree’s resources.
Rather than prioritising the earliest possible harvest, Nara’s growers place particular importance on maturity and colour. Reaching its main season around November, Hira Seedless Persimmon expresses this philosophy through its beautifully tender flesh, abundant juice and gentle autumn sweetness.
