New Japanese Matcha in Singapore

How to Make Matcha at Home

Meet two new matcha tins from Shizuoka, learn how to prepare a smooth traditional bowl or an iced latte, and discover Japanese sweets that make the experience even better.

Matcha can be many things: a quiet bowl whisked with hot water, a creamy iced latte on a warm Singapore afternoon, or the distinctive flavour behind a favourite Japanese dessert. The easiest place to begin is with a matcha that suits the way you like to drink it.

Tokyo Fresh Direct has added two Japanese matcha tins from Suzuki Choju Shoten in Shizuoka. Ashikubo Samidori Matcha offers a refined, mellow cup for enjoying with water, while Nutty Matcha is roasted to develop a warmer aroma that works especially well with milk. Both products are halal certified.

Quick choice: Choose Ashikubo Samidori Matcha when you want to taste the tea itself. Choose Nutty Matcha when you want a rich hot or iced matcha latte.

How to Make Traditional Matcha at Home

A bamboo whisk creates fine foam, but the method matters more than owning a complete tea set. Use fresh water, avoid boiling temperatures and whisk promptly so the matcha stays evenly suspended.

What you need

Usucha Style Matcha

  • 2g matcha
  • 70ml hot water at about 80°C
  • Tea bowl or wide cup
  • Bamboo whisk or small handheld frother

Method

  1. Sift 2g of matcha into a wide bowl to remove small clumps.
  2. Add 70ml of hot water at about 80°C.
  3. Whisk briskly from the wrist in a quick M or W motion without scraping the bottom.
  4. Stop when the surface has a fine, even foam and enjoy immediately.

For a thicker koicha-style serving, use 4g of matcha with 40ml of water at 80°C and mix slowly until smooth. Ashikubo Samidori Matcha is the stronger choice when the tea itself is the focus.

How to Make an Iced Nutty Matcha Latte

This simple recipe is designed for Nutty Matcha, whose roasted aroma and mellow body remain present after milk is added.

What you need

Iced Matcha Latte

  • 2g Nutty Matcha
  • 30ml hot water at about 80°C
  • 150ml cold milk or preferred milk alternative
  • Ice
  • Optional sweetener

Method

  1. Sift the matcha into a bowl or cup.
  2. Add the hot water and whisk until smooth and lightly foamy.
  3. Fill a glass with ice and pour in the milk.
  4. Pour the matcha over the milk, stir and sweeten only if desired.
