Description
Rich fragrance, pronounced sweetness, and a smooth, melting mouthfeel—a profile often described as distinctly “Le Lectier.”
Because European pears don’t fully ripen on the tree, Le Lectier is shipped just before peak eating; at home, allow it to ripen until the skin turns bright yellow and the aroma becomes noticeably stronger.
Le Lectier is a European pear variety grown predominantly in Niigata, Japan—around 80% of Japan’s Le Lectier cultivation is concentrated there, especially in the lower Shinano River region.
Harvested in mid-October, the pears are slow-ripened after harvest for 40+ days under careful control, then shipped in late November to December—a short, once-a-year window.
Serving
Chill briefly before serving, slice and enjoy as-is, or pair with soft cheese and a light dessert wine for a clean, elegant finish.
In Japan it’s also marketed as a “queen of winter fruits”—a seasonal gift item valued for its timing and rarity rather than size or novelty.
