Description
Kaori is an uncommon green-skinned Japanese pear, formally known as Nashi Hiratsuka No.16. Its defining feature is its characteristic fragrance—an unusually prominent trait for a Japanese pear—combined with strong sweetness and an exceptionally large fruit size.
This TFD selection is an extraordinary 6L+ size, weighing approximately 900g–1kg per pear. Kaori itself remains remarkably scarce: only about 24 hectares were cultivated across Japan in 2022, with Tokushima accounting for roughly 2.3 hectares. The prefecture’s fruit research institute also records how local growers adopted Kaori after discovering it in a research orchard, establishing a distinctive Tokushima production story around this unusual pear.
The combination is what makes this selection exceptional: rare cultivar × signature fragrance × near-1kg fruit.
