Description
This Tosa Buntan is cultivated in controlled greenhouses in Kochi, southern Japan, where abundant sunlight is carefully managed to ensure consistent quality. The result is a large citrus fruit with firm, plump flesh and a high juice content. When eaten, the juice releases cleanly and evenly, offering a refreshing mouthfeel.
With a natural sugar level of approximately 12–15° Brix, Tosa Buntan is known for its balanced profile of sweetness, acidity, and gentle bitterness. This distinctive flavor is a hallmark of Kochi’s flagship citrus variety and is difficult to replicate outside the region.
Greenhouse cultivation minimizes variation in taste and appearance, producing fruit that is consistently large, well-shaped, and glossy. This makes it particularly suitable for year-end and seasonal gifting, where both flavor and presentation matter.
Storage & Ripening Notes
-
To prevent moisture loss, store indoors in a plastic bag.
-
If the fruit tastes sharp at first, leave it at room temperature for several days to allow the acidity to mellow naturally.
-
A stronger, fresh citrus aroma indicates optimal eating condition.
