Kirara no Kiwami is a rare late-season golden peach grown in Japan’s renowned Tohoku fruit regions, including Fukushima and Yamagata.
Its beautiful golden-yellow skin and vivid yellow flesh immediately set it apart from Japan’s more familiar white peaches. As the fruit ripens, it develops a rich, sweet fragrance with distinctive mango-like tropical notes, making it one of the most unique peaches of the late summer season.
The flavour is rich yet well balanced. Generous sweetness is complemented by gentle acidity, while the juicy yellow flesh delivers a deeper, more aromatic taste than many traditional white peach varieties. When freshly harvested, the texture tends to be relatively firm and dense. After a few days of ripening at room temperature, it gradually becomes softer, juicier and increasingly fragrant.
Kirara no Kiwami was developed in Fukushima by crossing the Japanese peach varieties Kawanakajima Hakuto and Yuzora. It is a late-ripening variety that reaches its best season around September, extending Japan’s premium peach season beyond the main summer harvest.
The growing environment of Tohoku also contributes to its quality. Fukushima’s inland fruit-growing areas receive abundant summer sunshine, while Yamagata is known for significant differences between warm daytime and cooler nighttime temperatures. These conditions support the development of sweetness, aroma and flavour as the peaches mature.
Because Kirara no Kiwami is produced in relatively limited quantities and harvested only during a short period at the end of the peach season, it remains much less common than Japan’s mainstream peach varieties.
Its golden colour, impressive size and tropical aroma make it a particularly memorable fruit for both gifting and enjoying at home. For those familiar mainly with Japanese white peaches, Kirara no Kiwami offers something distinctly different: rich sweetness, refreshing juiciness and an elegant mango-like fragrance in every bite.
A rare taste of Japan’s late summer, Kirara no Kiwami is a beautiful way to enjoy the final chapter of the Japanese peach season.
