Description
Mariehime is Wakayama’s original strawberry variety, created by crossing Akihime and Sachinoka. Registered in 2010, it is cultivated exclusively within Wakayama Prefecture, making it a notably rare fruit even in Japan. Its appeal lies in its large size, vivid red colour, and a rich sweetness with depth. True to its name, Mariehime has a delicate, charming appearance reminiscent of a traditional Kishu temari ball.
At Kawaguchi Farm, each strawberry is grown with close attention to both flavour and cultivation quality. The farm focuses on careful soil preparation and environmental control to optimise photosynthesis, helping the fruit develop its natural sweetness. After planting, chemical pesticides are kept to a minimum, while beneficial insects and microorganisms are used as part of a more thoughtful growing approach. The result is a strawberry grown with care, with safety and taste kept firmly at the centre.
