Description

🏺 ONIBIZEN OVAL Plate

Handcrafted Bizen Ware • Compact Individual Plate • Heat-Resistant Ceramic

The ONIBIZEN OVAL plate brings the natural beauty of Bizen ware into a compact, easy-to-use size for everyday dining.

Made with specially blended heat-resistant clay, each plate is fired in a traditional climbing kiln at approximately 1,200°C for more than 10 days. It is microwave-, oven-, and dishwasher-safe, offering both traditional craftsmanship and modern convenience.

✨ Why You’ll Love It

✔ Handcrafted Bizen ware oval plate
✔ Microwave-, oven-, and dishwasher-safe
✔ Fired without glaze for a natural earthen texture
✔ Each piece has unique kiln colours and markings

🔥 Unique Kiln Beauty

Each plate is shaped by hand without moulds, giving it subtle variations in outline, curve, and depth.

During firing, wood ash, rice straw, iron-rich clay, and flame create one-of-a-kind colours and natural markings. The textured surface adds depth to food presentation and enhances the look of small dishes, desserts, side plates, and appetisers.

🍽️ Designed for Everyday Dining

The SS size works beautifully as an individual side plate and pairs naturally with the larger ONIBIZEN OVAL L plate for a coordinated table setting.

With continued use, the unglazed surface gradually becomes smoother and develops deeper lustre, giving each piece a character unique to its owner.

🧑Crafted by Atobu-gama

Ceramist Kenji Takeda of Atobu-gama combines traditional climbing-kiln firing with clay and firing methods refined through years of experimentation.

Inspired by Ura, the legendary demon deity of ancient Kibi, ONIBIZEN connects the cultural heritage of Kibi and Bizen with tableware designed for contemporary life.

Kenji Takeda

ATOBUGAMA / Atobu-gama

Before establishing his current ceramic practice, Kenji Takeda worked in Okayama and Tokyo as a designer for a major candle manufacturer, where he was involved in both product planning and production.

He also gained experience in sales and retail at a textile company, as well as welding and carpentry on construction sites. Each of these experiences now contributes to the ideas, techniques, and hands-on craftsmanship behind his work at ATOBUGAMA.

Bizen ware has extraordinary depth. The condition of the flames inside the kiln can sometimes create completely unexpected results, and that unpredictability is part of its fascination. I hope more people will discover its beauty and welcome Bizen ware into their everyday lives.
