🍚 ONIBIZEN OHITSU Rice Storage Vessel

Handcrafted Bizen Ware • Microwave & Oven Safe • Keeps Rice Moist

The ONIBIZEN OHITSU brings the tradition of Bizen ware, one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns, into the modern kitchen.

Made with specially blended heat-resistant clay, each vessel is fired in a traditional climbing kiln at approximately 1,200°C for more than 10 days. It preserves the natural beauty of Bizen ware while offering practical everyday use — microwave-, oven-, and dishwasher-safe.

✨ Why You’ll Love It

✔ Handcrafted Bizen ware OHITSU
✔ Helps keep cooked rice pleasantly moist
✔ Microwave-, oven-, and dishwasher-safe
✔ Can be used for storing, reheating, steaming, and serving
✔ Unique kiln colours and markings on every piece
✔ Develops deeper character and lustre with use

🍚 Keeps Rice Soft & Delicious

The fine porous structure of Bizen ware helps absorb excess moisture from freshly cooked rice while preventing it from drying out.

Rice stored inside stays pleasantly moist, and reheating it in the microwave with the lid on helps restore a soft, freshly cooked texture.

🥦 More Than a Rice Vessel

Beyond rice storage, the ONIBIZEN OHITSU can also be used as a lidded vessel for steaming:

  • Vegetables
  • Meat
  • Seafood
  • Small side dishes

After cooking, it can be brought directly to the dining table for serving.

🔥 One-of-a-Kind Kiln Effects

Bizen ware is fired without glaze. Its natural colours and markings, known as yohen kiln effects, are created by iron-rich clay, wood ash, rice straw, and the movement of flame inside the kiln.

No two pieces are exactly alike, and with continued use, the surface gradually gains greater depth and lustre.

🧑🎨 Crafted by Atobu-gama

Ceramist Kenji Takeda of Atobu-gama spent six years building his own climbing kiln, followed by years of refining the clay blend and firing method needed to create heat-resistant Bizen ware without losing its natural character.

Inspired by Ura, the legendary demon deity of ancient Kibi, ONIBIZEN connects the cultural heritage of Kibi and Bizen with contemporary living.

🍽️ Recommended Use

Before storing rice, thoroughly wet the inside of the OHITSU. Add the rice and close the lid.

Before reheating, soak the entire OHITSU in water so it absorbs enough moisture, then microwave the rice with the lid on.

A handcrafted Bizen ware rice vessel that keeps rice moist, reheats beautifully, and brings natural kiln-fired character to everyday dining.
