Slowly Simmered. Rich in Hokkaido Umami.
Matsuba Shibuki Hokkaido Kettle-Simmered Kelp 55g
Thick Hokkaido kombu, savoury soy sauce and a pleasantly soft, chewy texture make Matsuba Shibuki a satisfying companion to rice—or a flavourful snack straight from the pack.
✨ What Makes It Special
-
Simmered first, sliced afterwards
Thick pieces of kombu are slowly kettle-simmered, then dried and cut into uniform strips. This careful sequence allows the seasoning to penetrate while preserving their shape and satisfying bite. -
Naturally rich kombu flavour
Gentle saltiness and soy sauce complement the kelp’s concentrated umami, bringing savoury depth to simple dishes. -
A recipe preserved for over 50 years
Matsuba Shibuki reflects generations of kombu-processing expertise and a longstanding commitment to its distinctive flavour.
Made by Matsumoto, a kombu specialist headquartered in Sakai, Osaka, with its own processing facility in Hakodate, Hokkaido.
How to Enjoy
Serve over steamed rice or mix into rice balls. Toss with cabbage and sesame oil for a quick side dish, or add to Japanese-style pasta. Also delicious as a savoury snack.
