Nagano Purple is a dark-skinned grape rich in polyphenols, which is its greatest strength. Eating one bunch of Nagano Purple grapes provides the same amount of resveratrol (a type of polyphenol) as a bottle of red wine. However, due to its delicate skin that can easily tear with minimal damage, it requires careful and attentive cultivation throughout the year, making it a rare and highly prized grape.

Nagano Prefecture experiences significant temperature differences between day and night, which is crucial for fruit cultivation. During the day, fruits store nutrients through photosynthesis, and at night, they respire. When nighttime temperatures are high, more energy is used for respiration, but when it's cool, less energy is consumed. Although Nagano's inland climate causes daytime temperatures to rise sharply in summer, the nights are refreshingly cool. This allows the trees to retain more of the nutrients stored during the day without overusing them at night.
