Edosaki Kabocha (squash) is the specialty product of Inashiki, Ibaraki prefecture, which is protected and registered under Geographical Indication(GI) protection system by Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishery.
While many squash are ripening after harvest, Edosaki Kabocha is already ripen when harvested. This brings soft texture and sweet taste. For this, the price at the Market doubles the normal squash.
Because Inashiki city is blessed with stable weather, the soil is not too dry and not too wet throughout the year, which helps grow one of the best squashes in Japan.
